Assessment - This step includes a detailed history about your symptoms. You will be asked to do repeated movements in a variety of positions. How your symptoms and range of movement changes with these repeated movements provides the clinician with information about your problem.
Classification - Your evaluation will provide insight to nature of your pain and syndrome condition. Then your therapist can take you on a logical path for treatment.
Treatment - You will be prescribed specific exercises and advice on postures to adopt and those to avoid. Hands-on techniques may be added until you can self manage. You will be actively involved and the knowledge you gain will lead to regular self-treatment.
Prevention - You control your pain.

The system of patient care known as the McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) is an approach trusted and used by clinicians and patients all over the world for common back, neck, and extremity joint problems.
Most musculoskeletal pain is "mechanical" in origin, meaning every day movements and postures cause pain. A McKenzie trained therapist performs a systematic evaluation that finds certain movements and postures that can abolish pain and restore function.
Furthermore, the McKenzie approach empowers you for self-treatment and promotes the body's potential to heal itself without medication, surgery, or passive modalities.
Are there periods in the day when you have no pain?
Have you had more than one episode of low back/neck pain?
Do you feel worse with prolonged bending or stooping?
Do you feel worse when sitting too long or coming to stand?
Does your low back pain feel better lying down or walking?
Do you feel worse when inactive and better when you move?
Do you associate pain with particular activity?
A comprehensive physical therapy evaluation will be completed prior to using the McKenzie Method® as part of your treatment plan.

Spinal range of motion, muscle testing, joint palpation, and basic neurology testing of the spine to determine if nerve impingement, disc pathology, and/or spinal facet restrictions contribute to your pain.
Specific joint range of motion, muscle testing, and special tests to determine joint pathology.
Application of hands on techniques to identify restrictions in the fascia, joints, and muscles that contribute to your pain. Identify muscle trigger points that reproduce your pain referral patterns. Determines stiff capsular patterns of joints.
